Adult mewing,
does it really help with Persistent change in jaw bones or facial contour?
research showsThe verdict is pending. A broad search on August 7, 2026 found no human study that applied adult mewing and directly measured jaw-bone remodeling or cosmetic facial-contour change. The score is null.
ads claimClaims that mewing changes the jawline, cheekbones, or asymmetry circulate widely on Korean online platforms and short-form media, but no adult study directly measuring jaw-bone remodeling or cosmetic facial contour separates training from camera angle, lighting, body-weight change, or natural growth.

- Moschik 2015 · retrospective study of 141 adults, mean age 43.4 years, range 18 to 78 · excluded because it measured upper intercanine distance, philtrum length, and overjet without radiographic or three-dimensional skeletal assessment; dental tipping could not be distinguished from bone movement, and the intervention was a combined tongue, lip, cheek, posture, and breathing program rather than mewing alone.
What the research actually shows
PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane CENTRAL, and RISS were searched on August 7, 2026. PubMed mewing[Title] returned two raw records and the other three queries each returned zero. Google Scholar's total raw-result count was not recorded; the first 200 results were screened. CENTRAL and RISS were searched separately, and their raw-result counts were not recorded. Eligibility was assessed separately for jaw-bone remodeling and cosmetic facial-contour change. Zheng was a cross-sectional study of tongue position and upper-airway morphology, not a mewing intervention trial. Moschik 2015 studied a complex myofunctional program in 141 adults but could not distinguish dental tipping from bone movement and did not directly measure either claimed endpoint.
Why this is classified as ?
No human study measured the claimed adult endpoint, so the grade is pending and the score is null.
Counterpoint. Absence of research is not proof of no effect; it means direct evidence is not yet available.
Rejudgment record. Cross-check applied — Reproducible searches found no human study applying adult mewing and measuring before-and-after jaw-bone or facial-contour change

Sub-claim grades by effect
This ingredient is marketed for several effects. A single overall grade blends strong and weak claims together, so each effect is graded separately here. The overall grade reflects the strongest disconfirming or core claim.
| Effect (sub-claim) | Grade | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Adult jaw-bone remodeling | ? | No human study directly measured this endpoint after mewing. |
| Adult cosmetic facial-contour change | ? | No human study directly measured this endpoint after mewing. |
