What the research actually shows
Among 15,362 male physicians followed for a mean 9.6 years, 632 heart-failure cases occurred. Compared with less than weekly intake, adjusted HRs were 1.24 (95% CI 1.04 to 1.48) for one to three times weekly, 1.28 (1.00 to 1.63) for four to six times, and 2.03 (1.37 to 3.02) for daily or more.
Why this is classified as C (45)
A clinical event and strong frequency gradient support the harm claim. Confidence remains limited by a single cohort, coarse exposure measurement, a self-reported outcome, and residual confounding. The grade describes confidence in the risk claim, not whether fried food is moderately safe.
Counterpoint. The trend remained after additional adjustment (P=.003) and after excluding events within 24 months, but without randomization other dietary and health differences among frequent fried-food consumers may explain part of it.
