What the research actually shows
The review searched PubMed through March 31, 2011 and included nine prospective cohorts with 10,863 colorectal cancers in the processed-meat dose-response analysis. The representative EPIC cohort followed 478,040 people for a mean 4.8 years and recorded 1,329 cases, about 2.8 per 1,000 overall during follow-up; that is not an exposure-specific absolute difference. EPIC was already included in the Chan meta-analysis and was not counted as a second replication. Funding of the pivotal evidence checked was public or nonprofit, including World Cancer Research Fund International and Europe Against Cancer.

The pooled association from publicly or nonprofit-funded cohorts was precise and directionally consistent, but questionnaire exposure, incomplete confounding control, and cooking-method misclassification limit the evidence to C with 56 points.
