What the research actually shows
Kim and colleagues screened 61 healthy adults in 2026 and randomized 36. One withdrew during washout, so 35 completed both periods. At a data-review meeting before the blinding code was opened, two acetaldehyde outliers, one from each sequence group, were excluded, leaving a per-protocol analysis of 33. The formulation was taken 30 minutes before alcohol. Primary endpoints were blood alcohol and acetaldehyde concentrations and AUCs; the AHSS and AHS hangover scales were secondary endpoints. Blood-alcohol AUC was 58.6+/-13.9 versus 66.2+/-13.5 mmol-h/L (p=0.008), acetaldehyde AUC had p=0.031, and AHS was 4.03+/-2.64 versus 8.61+/-8.29 (p=0.026). Alcohol Cmax (p=0.057) and total AHSS (p=0.113) were null, and no 95% confidence intervals were reported. The trial was not prospectively registered; the paper cited an exemption. The product combined minari extract equivalent to 6.69 g raw material with pear concentrate, taurine, vitamin C, and milk-thistle extract. Jeonju AgroBio-Materials Institute manufactured and provided both formulations. No human study tested whole minari or minari juice alone for hangover symptoms.
