Aster spathulifolius extract,
does it really help with Reduced body fat?
research showsAster spathulifolius extract at 700 mg/day produced about 3.3 kg of weight loss and about 2.3 kg of fat loss in a 12-week RCT of 44 adults with obesity. Only 41 completed this single company-supported trial, and no independent replication was identified, supporting C with 52 points.
ads claimMarketing turns a Jeju coastal native plant, concentrated chlorogenic acid, and slogans about targeting body fat into certainty of actual weight loss. Individual recognition means that a study and specification exist; it does not establish effects from every Aster tea or powder or durable obesity treatment.
Useful facts when choosing a product
- The first Korean individual recognition was 2020-11; 2022-36 is a duplicate recognition. The recognized intake is 700 mg/day.
- The ingredient is an extract of Aster spathulifolius leaves, with a marker specification of 14.4 mg/g chlorogenic acid.
- It is sold in Korean combination health-functional products including Slimway Diet that provide 700 mg/day.
- No related adverse events were reported over 12 weeks, but long-term safety evidence is limited. Caution is advised for infants, children, pregnancy, lactation, and allergic conditions.
What the research actually shows
The Cho 2016 RCT assigned 44 adults with BMI from 25 to 30 to Aster spathulifolius extract at 700 mg/day or placebo, and 41 completed the trial. Mean weight fell 3.30 kg, bioimpedance fat mass 2.38 kg, and DXA fat mass 2.26 kg in the extract group, differing from placebo. Lipids, fasting glucose, and HbA1c did not differ between groups, and no product-related adverse events were reported. This first clinical study was supported by Newtree, and no independent replication was identified.
Why this is classified as C (52)
One RCT consistently found positive weight and fat-mass outcomes by bioimpedance and DXA, but it was a 44-person, 12-week, company-supported first trial without independent replication, supporting C with 52 points.
Counterpoint. A published short-term weight and fat-loss signal exists for the matching 700 mg/day specification. This does not establish durable loss, improvement in obesity complications, or effects from ordinary Aster products.
Rejudgment record. New verdict — Positive weight and bioimpedance and DXA fat-mass outcomes in one 44-person, 12-week company-supported RCT, but no independent replication and null lipid and glucose markers
